An Exploratory Study on the Perception and Prevention of Cervical Cancer among College Students: Utilizing Photovoice Methodology

Abstract
The current study uses photovoice, a participatory and quantitative method of research, to understand the perception and Prevention of Cervical Cancer among College Students. During 6 sessions that took place over 2 months, participants were introduced to the research and proceeded with data collection and data analysis. Through group discussions, participants shared their experiences and feelings related to the photos they took concerning themes on which they had agreed. The results of the study were largely categorized into three themes as follows. Firstly, as sub-themes of perception of cervical cancer there were 'uncertain disease', 'Women who do not recognize the seriousness of disease', 'enlightened', Secondly sub-themes of perception of HPV vaccination there were 'Injection for females', 'Together, we get vaccination', 'safety belt'. Thirdly, sub-themes of perception acceptance attitude of HPV vaccination there were 'Recommendation from friend/family', 'Uncertain about efficacy and side effects of the vaccination', 'Heavy price tag and discomfort of visiting 3 times', 'Find a good hospital near by'.
This study utilized photovoice method to effectively reveal awareness and prevention of cervical cancer among college students and provided practical implication for the prospective plan for cervical cancer prevention.
